When renewing or registering your vehicle with the Iowa Tribe you must provide the following documents:
REGISTRATION FEES AND DISCOUNTS
Failing to Renew your vehicle will result in a late penalty of twenty-five cents, (.25), per day until it is renewed. Keep in mind that you have a grace period of thirty days to renew your vehicle.
If a vehicle is registered with the Iowa Tribe and it is not drivable, broke down or just not running, the tribal member who is the registered owner may fill out an “Un-Roadworthy Affidavit” and will not have to pay late charges from the time the affidavit is received. If an “Un-Roadworthy Affidavit” is not on file, then the registered owner will be responsible for paying the penalties. An “Un-Roadworthy Affidavit” can be obtained by contacting the Vehicle Registration Department by mail and one will be sent to the tribal member or you can stop by and request one.
PERSONALIZED LICENSED PLATES
A personalized license plate can be obtained through the Vehicle Registration Department. This is done by requesting a Personalized Tag Application and payment of the fee, which is $37.50. The maximum is seven letters for an automobile tag and six for a motorcycle.
ASSISTANCE WITH TAGS OR RENEWAL
Elders and Veterans can use their Elders and Veteran Assistance for Tags or Vehicle Registration. Tribal Members who do not fall under these categories cannot use their Household Assistance for Tags or renewals.
REGISTRATION RENEWALS BY MAIL
Every month a letter is sent out to tribal members letting them know that their tags are due to expire that month. In that letter it will give you an amount to pay. (Please keep in mind that this is a computer generated letter and does not factor any of the discounts listed, so the amount may change if you are an Elder, Veteran, Disabled Veteran, and Handicapped. If you have questions about the amounts on the letter, please contact me during normal business hours and I will be happy to check for those discounts.) Once a price is determined, a check can be mailed to this department, along with a current Insurance verification and I will send you an Application for Iowa Tribe Vehicle Registration. All you do is sign it and have it notarized and send it back and the vehicle registration office will send you your renewal decals for that year. If you have any questions in regards to the amount or penalties that may apply, feel free to call Michael at 405-547-2402 x259 and he will be happy to assist you.
The Iowa Tribe is moving forward in the vehicle registration field. Currently all of our tag information is shared with OLETS, (Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications System). What this means to you as a tribal member is that your vehicles license plate will be recognized anywhere in the country by the law enforcement community.
